Essential Oils FAQ

What are Essential Oils?

An essential oil is a concentrated, volatile, aromatic liquid that is derived from true plants. They are generally distilled by steam or water from the leaves, stems, flowers, bark, roots or other elements of the plant. These oils have been used for centuries for both their healing and aromatic benefits. The chemical composition and aroma of essential oils can provide valuable psychological and physical therapeutic benefits.

How are Essential Oils used?

The limbic system-the brain’s center for emotion and memory-is fastest reached by scent. They can be diffused into the air, inhaled, applied topically and incorporated into massage. The Chemical Free Me does not promote the common practice of internal use. The International Federation of Aromatherapists does not recommend that Essential Oils be taken internally unless under the supervision of a Medical Doctor who is also qualified in clinical Aromatherapy. All cautions listed for individual oils do not include those cautions from ingestion.

How does the Chemical Free Me choose a specific blend?

Each of our essential oil blends is a specially formulated blend based on the emotional component connected to each of the essential oils included in the blend.

Are all essential oil brands the same?

Not all essential oils are created equal, and third party testing has proven that many brands, purchased in various common locations, have been adulterated. When purchasing individual essential oils be sure to research your source thoroughly. We proudly offer a line of essential oils created by Plant Therapy. Plant Therapy takes quality and safety very seriously including making their third party testing results available on the website for all of the essential oils. You will find a link to the PDF for each individual essential oil in their product description.

Can essential oils go directly on your skin?

No, they must be diluted in a carrier oil before being applied topically, or you can purchase pre-diluted as singles and blends. Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have regarding dilution.

Are essential oils safe for children?

Not all essential oils are recommend to use with children. Our blends, as well as the line of Plant Therapy KidSafe line are safe for children when used properly. World renowned aromatherapy expert Robert Tisserand helped create the KidSafe line of essential oils created by Plant Therapy. We recommend that you consult your physician before using if pregnant or under doctor’s care.

Does the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) regulate essential oils?

No, products need to be studied in randomized clinical trials for treatment of medical conditions, and that is not done with essential oils. Although essential oils have existed long before modern medicine, they have not participated in these trials. Statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
