Plant Therapy: Cypress Essential Oil

Botanical Name: Cupressus sempervirens

Cypress essential oil can be used to help support a healthy respiratory system. Diffuse Cypress into the air to help ease breathing. It can be used to ease swollen tissue in the legs and anal area and it is also useful in a deodorant. Emotionally, Cypress is a wonderful oil in helping deal with loss or grief; inhaling or diffusing cypress can help soothe the emotions. Like the tall, strong Cypress tree, the oil can support emotional strength. For a homemade deodorant, add equal parts of Cypress, Sandalwood and Lavender to your favorite carrier oil.

Directions: For a homemade deodorant, add equal parts of Cypress, Sandalwood and Lavender to your favorite carrier oil. To ease swelling in the anal area, soak a cotton pad in ¼ cup witch hazel with 2 drops of cypress essential oil, wring out, and tuck in between the buttocks for a soothing feeling. The same solution can be applied to the “spider” veins that are a normal part of aging; add 2 drops each of juniper and cypress essential oils to ½ cup witch hazel, dip a cotton pad or washcloth in the mixture, wring out, and lay on the affected areas as a compress, while elevating the legs.
